Modern driver head design is an exact science with powerful CAD software being used by every manufacturer these days. With these powerful software applications, the center of gravity (COG) can be moved up and down, forward and back to dramatically alter the performance of a golf club.
This video focuses on the COG because it impacts where the ball should be struck on the face for maximum performance.
The COG affects the "true loft" of the club, where you get the maximum ball speed with minimal twisting and where you impart the most spin on the ball off the driver. By hitting just 1/2" below the COG vs. 1/2" above, the difference in spin rate can be well over 1,000 rpm's. This difference for a moderately high swing speed player can equate to 20-30 yards depending on other launch conditions.
That's why determining the COG of your driver is so vital to learning how to bomb your drives. In this 20 minute video, I discuss in detail how to determine the COG, it's impact on true loft, it's impact on ball speed, ball spin, launch angle and more.
Using several different heads from different manufacturers such as Cobra, Titleist, Nakashima and Ping, you will see just how different each head is designed to perform and how what you "think" you're playing is likely to be very different than what you are actually playing.
