Golf Putting Drills: How To Aim Line & Focus | Tips

Is it more important to focus on the mechanics of the putting stroke or the path you want the golf ball to roll on? Believe it or not, if you want to make more putts, it’s far more critical to focus on WHAT you the want the golf ball to do rather than HOW you want to do it.

Many golfers seeking putting tips are often looking for some mechanical putting stroke tip as they think that’s the key to making more putts. Well, I can assure you, out of the hundreds of tour players I’ve coached over the past 20 years, ALL the best putters focused far more on the line than they did the stroke.

Visualizing the line is a skill that you can develop in short order and will help you make far more putts than any mechanical putting drill I could ever give you. Think about how simple it is when you watch a child hit a putt. They have no clue how to swing this giant club, they simply see where they want the ball to go and then try and make it go there with no regard to how they do it. Now compare that to the typical golfer who sits frozen over a 3 foot putt for 30 seconds! The mind simply can’t process all the information you’re trying to give it and make an athletic pass at the ball.

So, the next time you’re looking for a putting tip or working on a putting drill, try the one in this video to focus on the line instead. Make the line as clear in your mind as possible and then try and roll the ball over that line rather than trying to make a perfect stroke and watch what happens! When it comes to putting drills, this is THE drill that will have you making more putts than any other.

If you like this drill, check out this video on proper putting mechanics. This putting tip video will help you develop a simple, repeatable putting stroke so that you can stop searching for putting tips and drills online! Putting doesn’t have to be so hard, use these tips in these two videos to start cutting serious strokes off your handicap this year!

    Chuck,

Thanks again for this video it just helped me obtain another record…5 birdies (out of 10 GIR’s) on Silverado South course. I also just took an Aimpoint express class and between their theory and yours; it has improved my putting to obtain this record for me. I just can not express what your system has done for my golf swing and enjoyment. I just turned 65 and am hitting the ball further than ever, club head speed is up 5 mph and had an eagle putt on 18 (made birdie, the one that made the 5th one). I have converted a few members here and I guess it would be more, but it still takes work (been 3 years for me so far) and most of the guys my age or older just will not invest the time or effort. My goal of braking par and being a scratch golfer is almost there; just have to eliminate those few errors. This has also been the longest stretch of being a single digit of 6 months in my 20 years of golfing; glad you invented this system and I can’t understand why you don’t have millions of students!!!????
