Hi Craig, Is there a good, but simple range stretching and ball striking routine that is somewhat short but hits all the key areas? - key stretches to warm up key areas - Driver/Iron/Wedge routine to get me loose and hopefully in sync. Don’t like to go on the range for more then 25-30 balls/20 mins or so pre round, but didn’t know if you had a pre round routine you could recommend. Doesn’t even have to be full swings, part could be 9-3 or whatever I would get the most out of. I’m looking for simple and effective as if it’s too in-depth I won’t stick with it ???? Thanks!

Hello Matthew. I would graduate through the swing. Start with a few lead arm only 9 to 3 to feel release. Add the trail hand for another handful 9 to 3. Gradually make the swing longer and then increase some rate. But, that way you will be able to feel the swing and work on basic/simple consistency before starting the round.

From playing golf, I am getting a tingling sensation in my left hand like a pinched nerve or carpal tunnel. When I stop playing it seems to calm down. I am a right handed golfer and the way the left wrist is bent when holding the club in my golf swing seems to be causing this. Any advice?

Hello William. There will be a slight setting and cupping at address in the lead wrist. Do you tend to have an overly strong grip? Also, is the sensation only at setup, or throughout the swing?

I probably do grip the club too tight in my left hand. I also supinate in the backswing maybe too much. Do you have a video to illustrate correct grip?

Do you have actual printable workout sheet that we can follow instead of just watching the videos and doing what we think is right? I prefer the roadmap approach to fitness kind of how the Rotary Swing is set up in a 5 step series. Thank you!

In the level 1 RST Fitness and Golf Swing Learning program there is reference to further levels at www.golfconditioningnow.com/rotaryswing. This link does not seem to be working. I am looking for a program to work into my current gym fitness program that will help with flexibility and injury prevention as I continue with the RST golf program. Something that would provide guidance as to which exercises/stretches to use plus frequency per week. Also pre-driving range stretches. Thanks!

I had back surgery last month and am 72. Are these exercises safe for me? If not, what do you recommend?

Hello William. It would be tough to say. Depends on the type of surgery and severity of injury/repair. I'm sure you physician would have a pamphlet of what is acceptable right now and what is not. I wouldn't want to recommend something that your doctor prohibits you from doing right now.

Thanks, Craig. Actually my surgeon told me very little except to take it easy walk a lot and avoid bending and twisting at the waist; no lifting greater than 10-15 lbs. specifically the surgery is called microdisectomy at L3-4 minimally invasive tubular retraction. At my last visit I was told I could begin "light " swinging in about 5 more weeks depending how I feel. I was hoping to start some stretching and core strengthening beforehand. My. Abs and leg muscles on the right side have atrophied because of the pinched nerve and sciatica it caused. As I am feeling much better , I am eager to begin preparing to golf again.

Hello William. I am somewhat familiar with the procedure. My L4 and L5 were torn up in my college years (6 months - 0 swinging). A little stretching should be fine. But, a lot of the videos in this category are going to involve twisting and strength building. I would wait a little bit more until light swinging is fairly easy.

I don't see any exercises that are specific to the lower back. That is one are of weakness I seem to have. Also, is it lactic acid buildup in the muscles that cause all the stiffness later in the day or the following day after a round? If so, what can I do to prevent all the post 18 hole stiffness? I know my age(63) may be part of it, but I'd like to know how I can prevent this muscle stiffness, if possible.

Hello David. I would add the Bridge Exercises and the Stir the Pot (Overall Core to protect lower back). Hydration and stretching throughout the round will help with post round stiffness. Use the Deep Core Stretch a few times. A lot of the time. A player will get done with his/her practice or round of golf. Throw the clubs in the trunk and sit for a drive. When you get done practicing/playing. Take a few moments at the car. Do some core stretching and overall stretching of arms/legs. Same when you get out of the car. Don't go from active to static too fast.

What I like to see is a 30 minute overall fitness video we can follow to stay in good golf shape, rather than different vignettes which are nice if you need to address a specific problem but are not very practical to follow for a morning workout. Do you have something like this?

Hi, I'm hoping to tighten my obliques, especially the left side. Of all the oblique exercises, could you recommend one that will tighten the muscles, not just make them stronger? If that's possible. My goal is to feel a stretch in the left side during the backswing, at least at the top and use the ob's to help transition the weight to the left and assist in the upper torso rotation into the release. Thanks.

Grant, You're actually looking to lengthen the muscles and make them more flexible. Tight muscles are slow muscles. You want your muscles to be able to fire as quickly as possible. Grant Pettigrew has a great oblique exercise on this website. The chair rotations video. Check that out. I would also recommend becoming a member to Grant's website www.golfconditioningnow.com. All of his exercises jive with the RST lessons and his work outs will allow you to optimize your body for the golf swing. Work hard and you'll be rewarded! R.J.

If you did not do it can you direct me to whoever did it so that I can add it to my favorites. I love to work out. in the past my routine has been more of a body building route. back/bi chest/ tri legs. I'm not huge nor will I ever be at my peak I can get to be around 185 w/ less than 10 percent body fat. With that said that has been my worst golf season ever. is there a happy medium to play good golf and not have arms like tooth picks.
