But how does it affect club head &#8220;speed&#8221;?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In this article based on our recent &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rotaryswing.com\/golf-instruction\/golfbiomechanics\/right-shoulder-in-golf-swing-role.php\">Right Shoulder Golf Swing Drill<\/a>&#8221; video, I&#8217;ll break down the usage of the <strong>right shoulder in the golf swing<\/strong> and how it might be destroying your club head speed.<\/p>\n<h2>Testing your club head speed with just rotation!<\/h2>\n<p>Instructors around the world have always passed along the notion that &#8220;You must <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rotaryswing.com\/golf-instruction\/golfbiomechanics\/golf-rotation-5-min-to-master-rotation.php\">rotate the body <\/a>as quickly as possible to maximize your power.&#8221; Wrong! What you should know is that club head speed can be increased drastically when leverage (commonly known as &#8220;levers&#8221;) are built into your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rotaryswing.com\/golf-instruction\/golfbiomechanics\/how-to-get-a-more-natural-golf-swing.php\">golf swing<\/a>. Want to test it? Try this&#8230; Grab a golf club and take your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rotaryswing.com\/golf-instruction\/golfbiomechanics\/golf-swing-setup-5-min-to-the-perfect-setup.php\">setup<\/a>, then keep the arms very straight and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rotaryswing.com\/golf-instruction\/golfbiomechanics\/golf-rotation-5-min-to-master-rotation.php\">rotate your body<\/a> as quickly as possible. Are you are making that whoooooosh noise with the club head? You must use the right shoulder properly for leverage.<\/p>\n<h2>The big levers you must have in your downswing<\/h2>\n<p>The first one, probably the more obvious of the 2, would be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rotaryswing.com\/golf-instruction\/golfbiomechanics\/weight-shift.php\">weight shift<\/a>. Shifting your body back and forth with all that rotation will certainly generate more power but is it enough? The second lever, which you may not have heard mentioned, is lag and release. Take note of the right shoulder in the picture on the left, with a fully built lever known as lag. Then take note of the picture on the right.
