{"id":9294,"date":"2017-08-23T14:10:26","date_gmt":"2017-08-23T19:10:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rotaryswing.com\/golf-lessons-blog\/?p=9294"},"modified":"2017-08-23T16:00:09","modified_gmt":"2017-08-23T21:00:09","slug":"how-i-blew-my-club-championship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rotaryswing.com\/golf-lessons-blog\/how-i-blew-my-club-championship\/","title":{"rendered":"How I BLEW My Club Championship"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"module text\">\n<table width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td align=\"left\" width=\"530\">\n<div class=\"madmimi-text-container\">\n<h1>&#8230;And How to Keep You From Blowing Yours!<\/h1>\n<p>I had just joined a new golf club and everyone was looking to the big bad golf pro to win the club championship in a landslide victory even though our club has numerous great golfers, a PGA Tour pro who beat Tiger Woods in the PGA Championship, a couple NCAA collegiate champions and a handful of legit single digit handicappers.<\/p>\n<p>Well, after two days of intense play, I stood on the 18th tee box with a two shot lead. The 18th at my club is a relatively easy par 4 that you can hit a 3 wood off the tee and still only have an 8 or 9 iron into the green.<\/p>\n<p>The only thing that matters is putting the ball in play off the tee &#8211;\u00a0<strong>which I didn&#8217;t.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Knowing a bogey would still likely win the tournament, I opted for the driver off the tee just put the official &#8220;stamp&#8221; on my win that I could thread the driver into the small sliver of fairway between the two large, extremely deep bunkers. As a crowd of about 40 people watched on, I blasted my ball off the tee with authority, 290 yards up the hill &#8211; and about 2 yards too far right.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Right into knee deep weeds.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;F*&amp;K!&#8221; Was all that went through my head. WHY didn&#8217;t I just lay back with the three wood? Idiot!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ever been there??<\/p>\n<p>I had been struggling with releasing the golf club under pressure and the ball had been leaking out to the right when I got under the gun. Unfortunately, right was a place you simply couldn&#8217;t hit it on this hole.<\/p>\n<p>The ball nestled down deep into what I could only figure was the former home of a small troll, it was barely visible as I took a mighty lash at it &#8211; and\u00a0<strong>advanced it about 3 feet.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You moron!&#8221; The negative self talk was STRONG at this point as the pressure grew to get out of trouble.<\/p>\n<p>I wisely took a lob wedge on the next shot and hacked the ball out onto the fairway instead of trying to go for the green this time.<\/p>\n<p>From there I hit it onto the green and two putted for a double bogey. My competitor made an unbelievable up and down par save to give him the momentum he needed to defeat me in the second sudden death playoff hole.<\/p>\n<p>Why do I tell you all this? Because it was a\u00a0<strong>simple, fatal swing flaw that truly cost me the tournament<\/strong>\u00a0and it&#8217;s one that I see nearly every amateur golfer on the planet make every day at our golf school here at the Ritz Carlton in Orlando, FL.<\/p>\n<p>The swing flaw?\u00a0<strong>An improper release of the golf club<\/strong>.
