Golf for Beginners – The Golf Grip

It all starts here. If you don’t have a good golf grip, you don’t have much hope of hitting consistently good golf shots. No, I’m not talking about the golf grips on your clubs, I’m talking about how you physically grip the club with your hands. It is paramount that you understand what a proper golf grip is and how to get it.

There are many nuances to the grip and many variations that are taught, but from a biomechanical and physics point of view, you really only have one option. The last three fingers of your left hand (for right handed golfers) are the most critical and even your thumb plays a critical role in the golf swing. Yep, your left thumb is one of THE most important parts of the golf grip!

In this golf instruction video, I talk about the detail of the left thumb and how to check to see if your left thumb is causing major problems in your golf swing. In fact, incorrect use of the left thumb is one of main causes of losing lag in the golf swing (check out our Lag Builder series if you want monster lag)!
